Montreal Dominates Swooning New York Islanders
The Montreal Canadiens have gotten off to a slow start this season, and entered Thursday night's game against the New York Islanders having gone thirteen games without a win in regulation dating back to last season. Apparently, all they needed to cure their ails was a team that was struggling more than they are. The Habs jumped on them early scoring three goals in the first two periods en route to a 5-1 victory at the Bell Centre. Montreal improved to 4-5-0 with the victory while the Islanders dropped to 1-4-3.

How To Put Your Fingerings To The Test
If you take just about any passage of music in the violin repertoire and gather five players to play it, chances are you'll see five different fingerings being used.
This may not be the case, however, if the 5 players all came from the studio of one teacher.
Now, I consider that I have had four main teachers in my life.
As I look back, what strikes me is that two of them tended to have specific fingerings for any given passage, and sought to adjust my technique to accommodate them.
The other two took a very different tack.
I studied with a very gifted Italian violinist in high school - Guido Mansuino. His theory was, if you couldn't play a passage with a given fingering after 3 honest attempts, it was time to find a new one.
Milstein was much the same way.
In the interim, however, I spent three years with Eudice Shapiro at the USC School of Music. Now Shapiro was a truly extraordinary violinist, one of the finest of the 20th century, in fact. Yet I would still place her firmly in the school of 'adaptive technique', where fingerings were concerned.
And I must admit to having chaffed at the bit on this point whilst under her guidance.
It was only when I arrived at Milstein's door that I again began to feel the thrill of musical exploration - of personal innovation.
And fingerings were a big part of this agenda.
He himself was constantly looking for new and unique ways of doing things; often playing different fingerings in successive performances - he was unrivaled in his ability to do this.
In short order I found myself investigating three, four, or more ways of fingering a passage before coming to one that allowed for the right musical impact as well as a fluid, facile execution for my hand.
It sure fired my imagination to do so.
Admittedly, there are times when your fingering options are limited, and you really must rely solely on technique to get the job done.
Yet this is far more rare than most violinists realize.
So if you run into a problem playing a passage, stand back and take a fresh look at those fingerings. Chances are, with a little investment of time, you'll surprise and delight yourself with a much more effective way of playing a passage that seemed impossible seconds before.
And you'll actually be SAVING time and effort in the bargain.

Delirious: An astonishingly foolish comedy with a nice premise. A beleaguered soap opera author gets a conk on the head and fantasizes that he's living in his own story in a heroic role that allows him to have his way with the lady he worships in the real word. They overcome this obstacle by paying off a street drunk to get the tickets for them. This is the boy's first real intense introduction to foul language. They leave the movie fully trained in the new words, and use them whenever they can. This leads to outrage from the parents. Since Terrence and Phillip are Canadian, this ends with the US and Canada going to war.
Dracula: Gloomy retelling of the Bram Stoker classic, with Langella's esteemed Broadway characterization lost among hip terror gimmicks and ill-imagined changes in the original tale. Indianapolis Shreds St. Louis To Remain Undefeated
Peyton Manning was unable to tie a NFL record with his sixth straight 300 yard game , but the Indianapolis Colts remained undefeated by ripping the lowly St. Louis Rams 42-6 at the Edward Jones Dome on Sunday. Manning amassed 235 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions as the Colts made short work of the winless Rams. The Colts are now 6-0 on the NFL season, while the Rams are 0-7.
NFL betting devotees who backed Indy as -14 road favorites easily won their bets as the Colts improved to 5-1 against the spread. After dropping their first game of the year to the number, Indy has run off five straight pointspread covers. The Chiefs dropped to 2-5 against the spread with the setback. The 48 points scored went OVER the posted total of 45. Kansas City has gone OVER in four of seven games this season, while Indianapolis evened their NFL totals record at 3-3.
After the game, Colts' coach Jim Caldwell praised his quarterback:
"He functions pretty well within the system. He does a great job leading our team and being a field general. I don't think he reached 300 yards, but nevertheless he was very effective."
As has become his form, Manning deflected the praise onto his offensive line:
"I really appreciate the protection I've been getting. It's something I don't take for granted."
Indianapolis tight end Dallas Clark gave kudos to the Indy fans that made the trip to St. Louis to support the team:
"We had a great following today. It was outstanding. When we were introduced it felt like a home game."
Rams' running back Steven Jackson sounded like a man out of answers:
"We have to learn to put four good quarters together. We don't know how to win a game right now."
The Colts will return home next Sunday to face a potentially tricky game against the San Francisco 49ers. Indianapolis has been installed as -11 point home favorites and the total set at 45. They'll remain at home for the following two games, hosting the Houston Texans the following week and the New England Patriots on November 15th. St. Louis will take on another one of the NFL's bottom feeders next Sunday, playing on the road against the Detroit Lions. The Rams will have a much needed bye week after that before returning to action on November 15th as they host the New Orleans Saints.
