Choosing the right snooker table

A snooker table can be a great addition to the home of snooker lovers. With a table at home, you will have plenty of opportunities for practice and inviting friends over for a game. To make sure you do not waste time and money choosing the wrong snooker table, you should consider in advance exactly what you will need.

Choosing a good snooker table means considering things like table size and quality of manufacture. If you like a more challenging game, you will probably want a table with the smallest pocket requiring greater shooting accuracy. You will also to have chosen a table that matches the size of the room that you will be using to play snooker.

Leave enough space to allow players to make shots without bumping into the wall. In most cases, that will mean at least three feet of space around the entire table. For a professional table, you will need even more room, at least six feet all around the table.

You will also need to consider the size of the cue that you will use when playing snooker. Professionals use the longest cue, which measures 57 inches. However, many people will be willing to use smaller cues as this reduces the amount of room space needed. The normal cue sizes are 36 inches, 48 inches and 57 inches.

The thickness of the table cover determines how fast the ball rolls with thicker covers slowing down the balls responsiveness. However, thicker covers will last longer. The playing surface, which is known as the bed in snooker parlance, is made of slate in regulation tournament play. However, cheaper tables are made of artificial materials.

You will, of course, also want to consider price when choosing a snooker table for your home. The cheapest budget tables are generally not meant for serious players, but there are economy tables suitable for home play. The middle range and professional tables are the highest quality, and of course, more expensive. You will choose the latter if you are looking for something similar to tournament snooker.

Regulation tournament tables are made of high quality woods like oak and with slate beds at least one inch thick. Fine cloth is used to allow the ball to roll more accurately and responsively. The cover is not made of felt, but of materials like wool or baize with rubber cushioning. The rails that prevent the balls from falling off the table should be made of fine wood to provide more accurate bouncing.

If space is a problem, there are snooker tables that can double as dinner tables, and there are also tables that can be folded away and stored when you are not playing.

Finding a snooker table that meets your requirements involves first knowing where you will place the table, determining the proper size, and knowing what quality you desire and can afford. Once you have the right table and accessories, and have set up your room, you can enjoy snooker in the convenience of your own home.

Haunted Grand Tour Magazine

A lot is going on this Halloween season but i bet you didn't know about the Haunted House Grand Tour, that Attraction Magazine will be sponsoring all over the country. This will be like a Halloween version of The Amazing Race reality show.

Over 70 haunted houses, hayrides and haunted trails from 24 states is taking place in this review. Reviewer John Kennedy will be the man to be traveling around seeing these attractions and giving you the latest news and interesting details on some of the counties most popular haunted houses.

On October 12, the Grand Tour stopped to visit a few of the
Denver Haunted Houses. John was able to get to four different haunted attractions. He stopped first at Primitive Fear and 13th Street Manor in Commerce City and finished the night up at the Legendary 13th Door Haunted House and Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch in South Denver. Here is a sample of what John wrote in his blog after seeing the 13th Door and Slaughterhouse Gulch.

"My second stop of the night took me to visit The 13th Door and Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch Haunted Houses. These two haunts are located in a former shopping center in Denver but are very different haunts. I visited 13th Door Haunted House first.

The haunt is themed as a hotel with a good story behind the haunt. The Barrington Hotel was owned by wealthy Denver Millionaire, John Barrington. On a cold October night in 1912, John Barrington, was throwing his annual All Hallows Eve party in the Hotel's Penthouse suite. Unfortunately, a disgruntled nephew with a gambling problem starts a fire killing everyone inside, except for one person who found the 13th door.

Unfortunately, I got there later in the evening and had to go through by myself, but I still enjoyed the haunt. The haunt has good scenes and energetic actors who were doing their best to scare. There is a good variety of scenes and has plenty of dark spaces.

The second haunt I visited was Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch which is similar to 13th Door but edgier and more intense. As you can guess by the name, it is a slaughterhouse themed haunt. This attraction featured solid scenes and enthusiastic actors just like 13th Door."

When all is said and done, John will have traveled over 15,000 miles! Most of the tour will traveled via the trusty Haunted Attraction Hybrid with a couple airplane trips to get out west.

Does Ocracoke Make A Great Destination for Family Beach Vacations?

"The Andy Griffith Show" was a 1960's television show featured Andy, a sheriff in the small town of "Mayberry". The show revolved around Andy, his friends and family, and the great fun times that they all had together. While "Mayberry" is a totally fictional town, did you know that there is a place that reminds us of it? This place hastens back to a time when life was much simpler, people were kinder to each other, and everyone seemed to know your name. The place? Ocracoke, North Carolina...located in the Outer Banks. It's not only a great place for your family beach vacations, it's a place that will move you in ways you won't even realize. Read on to find out more...

North Carolina is a very modern state, so why is Ocracoke able to maintain this ode to "Days Gone By"? One reason could be that Ocracoke is a bit harder to get to. There is no direct road, no tunnel, no bridge... To get to Ocracoke you need to have either a private boat, or a private plane, or go via one of the public ferries that visit the island on a daily basis.

Shopping in Ocracoke is not at all like it's counterpart on the mainland. While shopping on the mainland can be rush, rush, rush...shopping on Ocracoke is like a leisurely stroll through the park. The shops are all rather small and quaint, and many focus on only one or two things. For example, there is one shop that focuses primarily on kites...one of the favorite pastimes on the island. They do have two main variety stores for your grocery needs, and a post office for those postcards back to the mainland.

One of the main tourist attractions at Ocracoke is it's historic lighthouse. Built by Noah Porter, a builder from Massachusetts, in 1832, it is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in North Carolina (and the second oldest in the US). It is 75 feet tall, with a diameter ranging from 25 feet at the base to 12 feet at the top. You can see the light from the top of this lighthouse 14 miles out to sea. A US Park Ranger is on duty in the summer, and while they are there, you can enter the base of the lighthouse. No climbing of the lighthouse is ever permitted.

As we conclude our article we would like to mention what we think of Ocracoke. We love it! That about wraps it up in a nutshell. It has a feel about it that is hard to describe. It hastens back to a time when life was simpler, and problems were fewer. You will just have to go there and experience it for yourself. Make sure you come back in one piece...you might just leave your heart there... :)

Had things happened differently, Nick Diaz would forever be part of MMA history. Unfortunately, Diazs moment of glory lasted only about six weeks. On April 10th, the Nevada Athletic Commission announced that hed failed a drug test. Diaz had tested positive for marijuana, and his THC level was off the charts. The Nevada Athletic Commission considers a THC level over 50 a positive result for marijuana usage. Nick Diazs THC level was an astounding 175 and that led NSAC Chairman Dr. Tony Alamo to speculate that in this situation marijuana was a performance enhancing drug. The rationale was that during the fight Diaz was feeling no pain"literally. Diaz was fined, suspended and the result of his almost certain fight of the year winner with Gomi changed to a no decision.

Diaz had singlehandedly removed the luster from a classic bout. Looking at the fight now, the action is the same but theres something absent from it on a spiritual level. Had Diaz not tested positive and the result stood it would have become a classic fight. As it turned out, it became more of a case study demonstrating just how much pain a stoned mixed martial artist can withstand.

While Diaz might not be a bad person, hes definitely someone who attracts trouble. With his lifes work ruined, Michael begins to regret the choices he made and wishes to have another chance to change his life. He visits his high school where it all began and his wish is fulfilled when some magic makes him young again. He decides to seize this chance and make a difference. He seeks the help of his friend Ned and enrolls in the same high school where his son and daughter are also studying. He learns that his daughter Maggie is dating the basketball teams captain called Stan. He finds out that Stan is a bully who beats up his son Alex. Michael, seeing all this, decides to do something to change the course of his kids lives and help them from avoiding the same mistakes he made.

Michael tries to correct all the stuff that he did wrong during his first attempt at life. He and Maggie become good friends. He also comforted Maggie when Stan breaks up with her. He helps Alex in making it to the basketball team and also helps him go out with a girl Alex likes. All feelings for his wife, Scarlet come back when he sees her looking for their son at one of the high school parties. Without much thought, he goes up to her and kisser her in public. This turns off Maggie completely. Issues between the couple are then sorted out later with the help of Ned as their marriage is finally reconciled. Mathew Perry plays the role of the adult Michael ODonnell while the star of the show is Zac Efron, who plays the younger one.

St. Petersburg Bowl Tickets Now On Sale

The St. Petersburg Bowl will play it's second annual college football game on December 19, 2009 in St. Petersburg, Florida. After debuting in 2008 as a new NCAA sanctioned FBS bowl, the game is played at Tropicana Field, known as the home of Major League Baseball's Tampa Bay Rays. The most likely teams to play in the St. Petersburg Bowl are from the Big East and Conference USA conferences, although there are contingencies for the Sun Belt conference as well. The bowl was approved in the same year as the EagleBank Bowl.

This year's St. Petersburg Bowl will again be televised on ESPN, and is the second bowl game of the year, with the New Mexico Bowl kicking off only a few hours earlier.This bowl game is a hit with college football fans in the Tampa area, being close to home and usually featuring Big East teams. It's great for fans to experience and FBS bowl right in their backyard.

The St. Petersburg Bowl is played at Tropicana Field, which is primarily a baseball park, which means that seating can be awkward. This is often the case with multiple-use stadiums, but a new Rays ballpark may be in the works, and if so, the game will likely be moved. However, it is not uncommon for football games to share time with baseball, and cities must strongly consider multi-use stadiums in order to fully leverage the tax dollars spent on sports stadiums.

The closer you live to nature, the healthier you're likely to be.

For instance, people who live within 1 kilometer of a park or wooded area experience less anxiety and depression, Dutch researchers report.

The findings put concrete numbers on a concept that many health experts had assumed to be true.

"It's nice to see that it shows that, that the closer humans are to the natural environment, that seems to have a healthy influence," said Dr. David Rakel, director of integrative medicine and assistant professor of family medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

One previous study had noted fewer health inequalities between rich and poor people in areas with lots of green space, and other studies have echoed these health benefits. But much of this research had relied on people's perceptions of their physical and mental health.

This new objective look at the matter involved scouring medical records of 345,143 people in Holland, assessing health status for 24 conditions, including cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological diseases. This information was then correlated with how much green space was located within 1 kilometer and 3 kilometers of a person's postal code.

People living in more urban environments had a higher prevalence of 15 of the 24 conditions, with the relationship strongest for anxiety disorder and depression.

In areas with only 10 percent of green space, about 2.6 percent of people experienced anxiety disorders, compared to 1.8 percent of people in areas with 90 percent green space. The disparity was evident for depression as well - 3.2 percent of people living in more urbanized areas had depression versus 2.4 percent of those in more rural areas.

The health benefits were evident only when the green acres were within a kilometer, not at the 3 kilometer perimeter, except for anxiety disorders, gastrointestinal digestive disorders and so-called medically unexplained physical symptoms, the researchers said.

Children and poor people suffered disproportionately from lack of green acres, the researchers found.

The study findings were published online Thursday in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.

Any number of factors could account for the benefits of green space, experts said.

More natural sunlight, for instance, has been linked with a lower incidence of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and other benefits.

"If patients in hospitals have direct exposure to sunlight through a window or natural sunlight, hospital stays are shorter and patients have less complications," Rakel said. "That's been well-established.

More light also means more vitamin D in the skin, which has been found to elevate mood and improve muscle strength, he added.

And fresh air, obviously, has a benefit as well, as do the exercise opportunities that come with more open space.

But much of the relief may come from the simple ability to de-stress.

"If we're in a busy street with more technology and artificial things, we're going to be multi-tasking more, which prevents us from focusing on one thing," Rakel said. "In this day and age, we really need some sort of centering practice. We need to get our mind out of its own stories and focus on something that's pure. Nature is a beautiful example of that - it's the way things were meant to be.

Football Games on the iPhone - Who Rules the Arena?

With the iPhone and iPod touch gaining popularity by the day and the football season upon us, we thought it would be appropriate to review some NFL video games. As we put together this iPhone Football game roundup, we found three that could just be some of the best apps out there. Let's take a look at EA's Madden 10, Gameloft's NFL2010, and Chillingo's Super Shock Football.

For the past 20 years, Madden has been the king of football games. It is now available in the App Store by game production house EA. iPhone and iPod touch gamers now face a dilemma as to choose between Madden 10 and the earlier released NFL2010 by Gameloft.

From a visual standpoint, Madden delivers, but not exactly with the precision we had hoped for. Everything looks a bit old-school like the graphics of consoles of days gone by. Yet, for the iPhone they look standard. You'll quickly recognize that the original John Madden comments and helmet-to-helmet crash audio effects are all included in this iPhone version of the game. If you don't like the included music tracks, you can play your own selection from your iPod library. All the controls in Madden 10 work great and a variety of options are available on demand.

We're looking forward to multiplayer and roster updates coming in a future software update. As it is, replay ability is exceptional. This IS a Madden football game. Expect to be engulfed in it until the next one is released. Gameloft's NFL2010 is right up there with Madden yet each offers a few things the other lacks. So, go ahead and buy both if you can pull it off. At $9.99, Madden enters the App Store at an expected price point and should stay there for the entire season. As anticipated, Madden 10 brings a 4-Star experience to the table and shoves its closest rival NFL2010 into OT.

Being released as the first full-featured football game for the iPhone, NFL2010 by Gameloft is designed to deliver. Of course, Madden 10 will be the title all comparisons are made by. Yet, in our reviewing NFL2010, we were excited to see it holds up and stands tall against its 20-year-old rival.

Graphically, the game looks gorgeous. This is the closest thing to Madden that we've seen. Sounds are good, with all of the expected football sound effects. Controls work well and are responsive. It just seems that it is lacking some of the functionality necessary to make us feel as if we have control over the plays. Often, it feels like we are simply watching them unfold as we've set them up. In fact, the plays where we felt like we had the most control were kicking plays, which utilize two gauges, one for aiming and one for power. This scheme works especially well.

Gameloft really impresses with NFL2010, their first effort at iPhone football gaming. This will be on our most-played list for some time to come. The $7.99 price is a bit steep, but it is lower than Madden 10 and it's a huge savings when compared to console games. We have to give NFL2010 a 4-Star rating as well.

Super Shock Football, Chillingo's new sports game based on the classic electric football game, has been released in the app store. Combining the random exhilaration of vibrating players with some exciting new additions, Super Shock Football won't replace Madden or NFL2010, but it creates a whole new experience unto itself that many may find just as satisfying.

Graphically, the game looks terrific, with 2D men darting around in a 3D world. The view shifts back and forth between top down for setup and on field for close ups of the action during plays. Sounds are great, with the soft hum of vibrating players in the background and football sound effects (like crowd noise, whistles, etc.) in the foreground. Controls are simple touches and can be accomplished with a single finger. Game information (scores, time remaining, etc.) are in tiny print along the screen bottom. While these are a bit difficult to read, they won't detract from the overall gameplay. Several options exist, including quarter length (up to 15 minutes each) and number of men per side (as many as 11, but you can play with far fewer).

Super Shock Football, although not on the same level as its more serious contenders, brings a lot of nostalgia and humorous gameplay to the App Store. Don't take it too seriously and you'll have a ball. Since the outcomes are so random in this title, no two games will ever be the same. Replay ability is very high as a result. At $1.99, Super Shock Football is positioned by Chillingo to be a winner. Surprisingly, we have settled on a 5-Star rating for this little gem of a football game.

In just over a year, iPhone and iPod touch gaming has soared to new levels. As we planned these NFL video games for review, we had no idea they would all perform so well. Madden 10, NFL2010, and Super Shock Football all bring exceptional aspects to the table with the result being a major winner for mobile gamers the world over. These truly are some of the best apps we've come across.
