By Karam Swanner

When you buy a shiny new gadget, the first thing you want to do is get playing with it, and testing out just how fantastic it is. Unfortunately, one of the most popular devices, MP3 players, are not always the most straightforward; which could leave you screaming "How do I put songs on my MP3 player!?"

As eager as you are, spend ten minutes to browse through the manual and check that everything that is meant to be included is. You should have an installation disc, with music management software; put this to one side.

It is always best to go with the manufacturer's software, certainly when first using the player. As you move on, and demand more functionality, there are other third party programs available however.

Installing the software is easy enough; simply place the CD in your computer, and follow the onscreen guide. This will load an application where you will be able to manage your files, arrange them, and will also allow you to convert other file types to MP3.

Once you are happy with how the application works, it is time to hit the web and pay a visit to the host of online music retailers to search for what songs you are after. Most sites are very good, and will pick up your music library once you select a track to download.

This is of course only half the story when asking "How do I put songs on my MP3 player quickly". For many, transferring tracks from CDs is the starting point. Having installed the software from the installation CD as outlined above, you should be able to follow the user guide to convert these files to MP3.

It is worth noting however, that many of the more recent CDs are copy protected, and will prevent you from saving to your computer.

Once you have your music stored in your management software library, all you need do is copy the tracks to your MP3 player. Connect your player to your computer with a USB, and await the onscreen prompt. From here, you can either drag and drop your selected files, or use the copying facility included in the software itself.

Having successfully transferred your music, you will be able to manage the files on your MP3 player either through your computer, or directly from the player itself. You can also choose to sync the player with the computer, or manage files independently. Whichever you decide, discovering "How do I put on my MP3 player" will see you enjoying your favorite tunes wherever you are.
